reflections on soul and self
soul is calling you
can you hear it?
if you can't
stop thinking about
and start listening
It's about feeling at ease without self-centredness. Which is not the same as feeling comfortable. There is too much injustice in the world to even consider that.
It's more about empathy, the bedrock of soul. From this there might even come a glimmer of happiness.
Albert Camus, the existentialist writer, is said to have once posited four requirements for the achievement of happiness.
While it is unclear how sincere he was at the time or if he even made the statement, these four suggestions do have resonance. Paraphrasing and in no particular order, they are:
- A creative outlet.
- A connection with nature.
- Lack of ambition.
- A sense of loving and being loved.
It is certain however that Camus said the following about happiness:
- "You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life."
- "But what is happiness except the simple harmony between a man and the life he leads."
